Belvidere, IL - My first book was named after one of the settlers of Naperville, Illinois, Ruth Murray, who was a niece of Joseph Naper. As an adult, Ruth married a man named Harlyn Shattuck and moved to Belvidere in Boone County, Illinois, so I checked to see if Belvidere had a Lincoln connection. Unfortunately all I've been able to find so far is that Lincoln may have been on a train traveling from Beloit, Wisconsin to Chicago that passed through Boone County since www.TheLincolnLog.org shows him in both places on successive days. It's not much of a connection, but I keep looking!

Lincoln, NB - Here's one I found. The capital and second most populous city in Nebraska started out as Lancaster. The town was renamed, but not to honor Lincoln, exactly. Instead, the move to rename Lancaster began by parties in Omaha, then the capital of the territory, to keep its title. Lancaster was in the southern territory, sympathetic to the Confederacy at that time, and the renaming was an attempt to derail the shift away from Omaha. So claims the Wikipedia listing for the city, although the author does not cite his/her source. This must be the accepted legend in Lincoln, NB, since nobody has challenged the statement.
